The Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises, MSME has set up a one man expert committee to draft a comprehensive policy for MSMEs. Participating in a sectoral seminar as part of the on going Make In India Week in Mumbai today, the MSME Minister Shri Karlaj Mishra said the MSME sector in the country iscurrently facing a host of problems and asserted that the government is trying to address them through various measures. “I believe that the MSME’s contribution to country’s economy is witnessing progress despite the global slum” the Minister said.

Assuring hassle free environment for the MSMEs the Minister informed that the process of registration of units has been simplified as a part of the Make in India initiative.. “The biggest hindrance in the MSME sector – registration – has been highly simplified in the past few months. Today, anybody with an innovative idea can submit only a one-pager document and register online in three minutes without documentation or money spent” Shri Mishra said.

Since the launch of the online registration portal, 2 lakh 25 thousand registrations have been done till date, with 45,000 in Maharashtra alone.

On the performance of MSME sector, the Minister said, “the Indian MSME sector provides maximum opportunities for employment and contributes in building an inclusive and sustainable society in innumerable ways through creation of non-farm livelihood at low cost,

Shri Mishra also said that it was mandatory for public undertakings to buy 20 per cent of their requirement from MSMEs. Stressing on innovation and research and development in the MSME sector, the Minister said that the government has proposed to open 51 clusters and 500 incubation centres across the country. Through the Aspire scheme for promotion of innovation in rural industry, two technical incubation centres and two business centres have already been launched.

The minister observed that with its resource pool of engineering talent and high skill labour at affordable costs, India has the potential to become a significant player in the global auto industry, especially in engineering and component manufacturing.
